Although it is difficult to get myself outside in the predawn hours, I am never sorry. I captured this big momma with my Nikon just as the fog was lifiting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Wow - great pic! Such a foreign looking creature to me.A sort of big ungainly creature I gather, but then we have a few weird-looking ones ourselves in Oz.Does a moose ever run or gallop,or just amble along. Were they ever hunted? As someone from the Southern Hemisphere I am completely moose ignorant. How fortunate you ventured out in the early hours and could capture this scene.
I understand a moose can run 30 mph (faster than a very scared person). They can be dangerous esp when a momma thinks her baby is threatened or a bull thinks his territory is threatened (kinda like all creatures)therefore a good zoom lens helps in photos.
Wonderful photo!!
Stunning!
Not something we see around here
though Buster would be thrilled.
Frost was stunning also
go to

for another super frost picture. She is a wonderful writer who lives in the English countryside.
I think you two would get along if you do not know her already.
Great shot! Not only a beautiful moose, but a beautiful frosted landscape. Hope you were dressed in LOTS of layers.
A beautiful shot, well worth your early morning.
Leenie thanks for your response to my comment.Coincidentally, I happened to be talking to someone who came from an area in Canada where moose were a problem. She told me that, like kangaroos in country Australia, they are quite dangerous on open roads, mainly browse at evening and dawn, therefore can cause quite serious accidents due to their size.Rather than being "cute" some of our kangaroos can get quite large and aggresive, particulary the "boxing kangaroo" variety, and with large aggro animals a zoom lens is certainly the way to go, along with a good pair of running shoes.
you had mentioned that the fog had just lifted; but the ground looks frozen; is this what they call freezing fog? :-) Beautiful shot.
Oh so nice :)))
