Oobleck, my friendly pet sourdough starter has been helping me produce some lovely loaves in the past two weeks.
I just had to brag. Check out that oven spring. Which I learned is the rapid increase in the volume of bread during the first few minutes of baking. It occurs when the yeast hits a hot oven and gives its last gasp, puffing up the crust.
I just wish there were a way to show off the tasty and delicious aroma that should go with this photo.
The flavor is right up there with yummy and mouth watering. It goes so well with the plum jam DH made the other day. I love it when a plan comes together.
Note to self: back off on eating bread or ride bike a whole lot more.
Just in case you don't know where I got the name Oobleck, I stole it from Dr, Seuss.
Wow! And now I want to read that book. I didn't know Oobleck but it is as good a name as any for a sourdough starter! I have only ever made bread at school. Andy makes delicious flatbread with fennel seeds. I admire your breadmaking skilss and just wish I could taste some with that plum jam!
ReplyDeleteI'll take a loaf...and I'll toast in and slather on some butter and homemade raspberry jelly...and I'll be happy! :)
ReplyDeleteI too have been baking bread - but of the yeasty variety. I must try to make sourdough one day - looks very impressive.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite smells is baking bread. Mmm!
ReplyDeleteI vote for toasted, with butter and raspberry jam.
ReplyDeleteI've got my knife, some butter and some of my favorite black currant jam...so please pass that magnificent loaf, Leenie?
ReplyDeleteYEAH YEAH looks like you finally have a winner. I have just discovered the art of beer bread who knew I don't drink beer but it makes wonderful bread I am now experimenting with different flours. Red fife flour is first on my list. Hug B
ReplyDeleteI could smell it clear down here in Colorado.... You are now a bread artist on top of your other gifts!

Oh, that looks fabulous!! But I do NOT need encouragement to eat more bread, cause I love it. I'll just look at these lovely pictures and drool. :)
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! Your comment about backing off on eating bread is the very reason I gave up on my sourdough starter. Having it around made me feel like I should make something with it. ;)
