I was minding my business, making beds, doing laundry the other day when the cell phone in my pocket started freaking out--screaming, honking, and vibrating. The text read,
"Boulevard, CA AMBERAlert: LIC/6WCU986 2013 Blue Nissan Versa."
I'd seen the news about the abducted teen from California and even heard discussions about people in the state being wakened by some similar phone text. But here? In invisible Idaho? Turns out she and her captor WERE in Idaho. Some alert back packers spotted them in a remote part of the state and reported what they'd seen. Search parties went out and a rescue followed.
ABC News Reported: After a massive search in a remote area of Idaho, police on Saturday located a suspect killer and the 16-year-old girl he allegedly kidnapped. The girl was found safe but the alleged kidnapper was killed, police said.
Sheriff Bill Gore in San Diego County, Calif., said 40-year-old James Le DiMaggio was killed by an FBI agent at 4:22 p.m. Pacific time near a campsite. His captive, 16-year-old Hannah Anderson, was located and "appears well," Gore told reporters Saturday evening.
I think more work needs to be done on perhaps putting more info in the Amber Alert so people can understand what just happened when their phone goes bonkers. I give great credit to those involved in making people aware of the abduction which most likely resulted in the successful rescue.

I'm just glad Headline News and Nancy Grace weren't in charge of the search.

Strange times. We seem to be connected in new ways to the misfortunes of others. If it means we can help, it's good, but it's going to give us the jumps for a while.

ReplyDeleteI lightly followed the case and was so glad to know she was found. My heart breaks for her though because she is damaged for life.
What a relief that she was found, safe! Hmmm...I wonder how that newscaster did on his/her geography final?
ReplyDeleteAn Amber Alert got me up in the middle of the night once, and I realized it didn't annoy me at all, although I did go back to bed. It was the middle of the night; other people could look for license plates. Which they did; the children were found and returned by morning.

I just realized the simi-hilarity of the shape of Okladaho and Idahoma. I am traveling soon with Idaho as a possible destination with Oklahoma being the first of many of the 49 colonies of the Republic of Texas that I plan to pass through on my foreign journey.
