On the previous post my friend, Anzu, commented she wanted to see the guy who went with the farm woman. So to give equal time to my dad here is a post about the farmer.
If you’re
looking for a photo of a real farmer, check out this one:
When the home
town newspaper needed a picture of a farmer out standing in his field, they
asked my dad to show off his wheat crop.
Here’s a photo I
took of Dad at work in our barn milking cows.
To be fair to
Mom this is one of Dad geared up for work in the winter. Um, Dad, the calves are getting into the hay
stack.
Dad had a real
soft spot in his heart for animals. Bingo,
the cow dog, loved Dad with jealous passion to the point of climbing on his
lap when he paid too much attention to cats like the black one there on the
sofa.
Most visits to
Grandma and Grandpa’s farm included a ride on the tractor.
While he was still
healthy, Dad took anyone who was willing to his favorite fishing spots.
So, although
some artists have depicted farmers and their wives like this…
My favorite
farmers look like this.
My grandparents were farmers, real farmers. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour pictures brought a tear to my eye.
Pearl
I like your farmers best.
ReplyDeleteOh you are one lucky girl to have had the best farmers raise you. Oh I LOVE everything about this post but like Pearl it brought a tearortow. Hugs my friend. B
ReplyDeleteI have so many favorite pictures of those two. They're a good-looking pair. Love my farmer genes.
ReplyDeleteAw - what a beautiful couple - you can tell that they really enjoy each other's presence in those photos. Thank you for my morning smile over here.
ReplyDeleteI come from a lot of farmers and was in two year old awe of my uncle squirting milk into a cat's mouth. I am in aw of your farmers, too. Incredible folks.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite picture is the cows in the hay stack. I like how the snow on that left side makes the stack look like a giant Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheat.
ReplyDeleteI also like your dad's goggles.
Oh, what a wonderful post!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely picture of your Dad's farming life. I especially liked the calves getting into the haystack! I have never heard of a cow dog before. It makes sense that there is such a job for dogs though. Jealousy in animals is a familiar thing in our house too-my old cat Boris and Tiger now both had/have big issues with this!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice that you have pictures of your Dad actively farming! The ruddy face and those strong hands say it all...he was a hard working man. I'll bet he went to bed each night feeling like he had earned his rest! Love the picture of him with the grandkids on the tractor!
ReplyDeleteThis was an outstanding post, Leenie! You brought a tear to my eyes and a lump to my throat!
