NOW YOU SEE IT...

Creatures around here are a little camera shy. You’d think they were movie stars hiding from paparazzi. As soon as they discover I’m pointing a camera their direction, they do their best to disappear.

The neighbor’s cat was out hunting when I tried to take her picture.

If she was green she would have blended right in.

Several pairs of mallard ducks have been spending time along the river.

As soon as they saw me watching

they moved into the brush along the bank.

I couldn’t figure out what this was.
Stump? Pile of dead leaves?

Then it moved. Rock chuck a.k.a. groundhog. He saw me taking pictures…

and headed for his house in a heap of construction debris.

The hooded mergansers farther down the river didn’t even try to hide.

They hauled themselves across the water…

and flat out left.

This one is a little tricky. Do you see anything here?

Look again.

How about now?

Now you see him.

Now you don’t.

  2. Great shots, I especially like the ground hog's first picture; it standing at attention trying not to move and keep you fooled it was a pile of leaves or stump..too cute. Also love the bunny hind legs shot of him hopping away. What a fun post.

  3. Love the critters and camera-shy creatures Leenie. The last one reminds me of that little rabbit Thumper.I think it was a Disney character.

  4. I have trouble taking animal photos also. They just seem to hate it. I think it is probably the flash. Anyway, you did a great job.

  8. Wow - you've got a lot of wildlife where you live! I love the last photo with the rabbit hopping away ... or is it a hare? - I never know the difference! From your comment on my blog it seems that you don't have much in the way of art happenings (and perhaps other "cultural" events where you are - are you on a farm?)
