They knew...they could see into the future to our crowded roads. They gave a little shudder and decided not to use it.
Surprise surprise!The world as we knew it ended...that is my hope- sort of like the matrix- shifting into another way of being with all memory altered...and the little children never got murdereed, there are no wars, everyone has christmas pudding and there is no such thing as cancer. There will always be wheels, of course, invented by the Mayan...
