THE DIRT ON OUR WEATHER

The swing in our yard winter 2006

Winter 2008

Winter 2010

Last Tuesday this headline warned us to brace for a "massive amount of snow."
We've had NONE so far this winter.

WRONG.  This is today, January 20, 2012.  Snow fell in the highlands and mountains.
All we got was wind.  So much wind the traffic on Interstate 15 was dealing with
low-to-no visibility from blowing dust.

The newspaper still has high hopes.
I think the snow got left behind in Oregon and Washington.

I know...My drought-stricken, winter-starved Minnesota soul is suffering too -- but part of me keeps saying, "be careful what you wish for."
OR....move to New Mexico and at least get a little sunshine to go with my dry weather! There's an idea I could get behind.

I can't believe we got dumped on down here and still you have none! That is mental! I like your tire swing.

That's neat that you have a picture of the same thing each winter. Were you perhaps planning a blog post way back then? :) We're supposed to get our first snow tonight...but not so much...only 1"-2".

Depressing.

We're finally getting some here in Minnesota

(ha, that's what she said)

The weathermen are telling us we are going to get 10 to 12 inches on Sunday. This is how we know they are weathermen. If they were weather women they'd say it was more like 3 to 4 inches.

Bizarre weather we all seem to be having.
So I can't tell--are you hoping for snow or not?

Susan: Yes, be careful what we wish for...
CarrieBoo: The tire swing was made by my dad. He's gone but the swing continues to give joy to another generation. Just a different tire.
Alica: Yes, the weather people are having a lot of trouble nailing this winter's weather down.
Tom G: You're finally getting some in MN--(snicker)
CeeCee: I miss the snow but loving the ease of travel without it. Farmers and the snow industry are the ones who really have a reason to want the white stuff.

Let's hope it misses you Leenie.

High winds are forecast for us this weekend.

Well you are so right us farmers are getting a little worried about the no ground cover. The alfalfa needs it to live. I may not be baling much hay this summer. The streams are very low too. Never good. We had six inches snow last night. It sure is pretty but I got caught in the middle of the wind and snow it was scary watching cars in the ditch. I made it though thank goodness. I am careful what I wish for now. Will be 10c this Monday very weird weather. B

We only have a little snow just enough to make the ground white..but it is really cold.
It is a really funny weather year..I am beginning to think that the Earthquake in Japan last spring has something to do with this all..:(

It is a weird snowless year this year. After your wondering why we aren't colder here as we are so far north, I was thinking about that and thought maybe the golf stream keeps us a bit warmer thatn say Norway. We have got used to snow here that last few years and I am missing it too-but it is strange you have not had any yet as it seems almost guaranteed where you are. Oh well, the winter is not over yet!

Holy moley. It's been mostly 50's and 60's here in Tulsa this winter. I'm so disappointed. Here's to both of getting snow sometime soon!

I think the snow might have gone on Holiday...maybe to Vancover. We're having a similar situation here.

You are so right! We got dumped on again today. It started snowing about 10:30 am and didn't stop until 7:00pm.

Big, big flakes. It was so pretty! I believe the weather is making up for no snow in December.

Your pictures are great, love the comparison!

Hahahaha!!! This is GREAT! What a neat post...and you know what? As far as I am up here in the north...I have hardly any snow on which to ski this year. (Unless I head to the mountains!) What is with the warm winter?:))

Nice read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that. And he actually bought me lunch since I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
