ROADS CLOSED

My morning walk took me exploring where automobiles are prohibited.

The street by the fairgrounds is seriously under construction.

Our town is expanding and growing at an alarming rate.  New sewer is needed to drain the sludge from hundreds of new apartments built to house students at a university that was once a two-year college.

A big party celebrating the 100th birthday of Madison County is planned at the fairgrounds this summer.  This puts a lot of pressure on the city contractors to get the big-dig done before festivities begin.

“I love work; it fascinates me; I can sit and watch it for hours.” Jerome K. Jerome

A block away and within yards of our house is more construction.

Heavy equipment like this rattles our windows and stirs up the dust all day.

The assisted living facility across from us is putting in more buildings.  If I had money to invest I’d put it into assisted living. The glut of Boomers is quickly becoming gobs of old geezers.  At least this place is close enough my kids can just shove me over there in a wheel chair when the time comes.

Our narrow little street was getting heavy traffic with all the detours so the city put up this sign.  Now we live on a closed road.  Keeps away the riff-raff.

TRUE LOVE IS WHAT BRINGS US TOGETHER TODAY

The big wedding day was spectacular and wonderful.
Bride and Mother of the Bride had been preparing for months and months.

Mother of the Bride declared, “Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!”

Bride, Groom and family and friends gathered to decorate and prepare for the big event.

Our house became Bed and Breakfast, with a beauty shop and nursery.

 Mother Nature didn’t cooperate.
The winds whipped up to gusts of 40mph and the temps dropped.
The bridesmaids nearly froze waiting for the couple to come out for photos.

Groom and Bride are now Mr. and Mrs.

The Groom loved the photo session with the bridesmaids.
The cold weather made for some serious cuddling.

Grandparents smiled through chattering teeth.

Before the reception “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”
while the guys pose for the photographer.

 The cake was cut.

 Preparing for the bouquet toss.

 Jostling for position.

The Bride’s younger sister scored.  Father of the Bride demanded a do-over.

“True love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They’re so perky, I love that.”

 Truly a Princess Bride.

These two can DANCE!

RED, GOLD AND SUNFLOWERS

The loooong awaited big day is tomorrow so I'm showing off the project which
took over the living room and left DH and me bruised and bleeding.

Number One Granddaughter met and became engaged to a young man from
California (we won't hold that against him) last summer.
Mother of the Bride has been in a fluff ever since.  At last tomorrow is the wedding.

As Grandma, I took it upon myself to make her a quilt for the occasion.
I was able to find fabric in the specified colors with sunflowers, the bride's choice.
It's not a work of art--as in pieced and hand stitched.  But it's tied at the corner of
every square of the fabric pattern. And it's large.

DH helped me set it up in the living room and it seemed to stretch off into infinity.
When he saw he wasn't getting to his favorite lounge chair until the quilt
came off the frames my Dear Hubby took up a needle and yarn
and helped me tie, and tie, and tie.

I used a thimble and a piece of an old rubber glove to protect my fingers.
DH used his favorite needle-nose pliers.

In just a few days we got it down to the last row.
It took us quite a while to clip between all the knots.
Not long after that I finished the edges. There will be a big reveal this evening since it
will be part of the reception decorations.  I doubt the bride will have time to read blogs
so I'm showing it off a little early.

Family and friends are gathering to celebrate.  It's getting pretty crazy and fun at the
same time.  We're happy for them and excited to welcome the groom to the clan.
He's the young man who will probably be the father of my first great grandchild.
I'm trying not to think about what that will make ME.
