MOVING IN AND MOVING UP

The Dahlies moved into their new house this weekend.  Their old home was a double wide with a redwood deck in a trailer park.

Now they have a three story townhouse with two bedrooms and a nursery.  It appears Salvador got a promotion.

Their house was custom made by DH to fit in the corner of my bookcase—a birthday present for me.

Even with all that room there was more furniture left in storage.  It seems I’ve gone a little overboard on the doll house furniture collection.

Leelah has been busy arranging the place.  Her next step is wall paper, carpets and curtains.  She’s just glad she has a nice variety of colors to choose from.  Not like that trashy Barbie who only seems to like pink.

She’s been unpacking the kitchen and is pretty happy except for a lack of cupboard space.  But every kitchen seems to have that problem.  Cat is just glad they remembered to bring along his food dish.

Polly is keeping an eye on Wally who is thinking of ways to get out of his crib and down the stairs.

Molly is giving a little recital for Grandma Stella who has put down her knitting to get ready to applaud because that is what grandmas do.  Salvador is just glad the piano made it into the house intact and is wondering if the song should really sound like that or if he needs to call a tuner.

The Adventures of the Dahlies was an ongoing blog subject for a while back in 2011 and continued on occasionally after that.  For another episode of The Dahlies click here.

THEATER OF THE MIND

My low bid on EBay won a radio.  When I unpacked it a few days later I got a fast ride on the Wayback Machine. Suddenly I was sitting on the floor at my grandma’s house in front of the big Motorola consol radio listening to Fibber McGee and Molly.  My new acquisition was a replica of that radio from my childhood.  It would go with my collection of vintage dollhouse furniture.

It’s weird how I can remember whole radio commercials from that era for products like Hallo Shampoo, Ajax the Foaming Cleanser, Jello-Jello-yum-yum-yum, Plop, plop, fizz, fizz Alka-Seltzer and Cream of Wheat, yet I can’t remember the number on my own cell phone.

Speaking of Cream of Wheat, I remember hurrying through my Saturday chores so I could listen to “Let’s Pretend” on the table model radio at home.

Our radio had a place in the kitchen where it sang out the latest hits for mom, and the farm market report for dad.  In the evening my sibs and I would listen to “Bob and Ray,” “The Lone Ranger” and “Suspense;” to name a few shows.  I’ll blame all that theater of the mind for my vivid and overactive imagination.

We didn’t get a television until I was almost in high school.  My poor brothers and my sister and I had to read every book we could haul home from our library.  Those were hard times.

How about Hallo Shampoo or Jello Pudding or Cream of Wheat or Pepsi Cola.  Thanks for going along with me on my Wayback Machine ride.

SOLD TO THE ANONYMOUS BIDDER ON THE PHONE

Liesel came to live with us a while back.  It was sort of a surprise
but a good one.  It turned out she went for sale on Ebay on a
day when nobody seemed to be looking for porcelain dolls.

She was a different size than my other dolls so the only furniture
that suited her was a Tiffany lamp that really lit up (another Ebay purchase)
and sweet wooden round table which came from Bellingham, Washington.

Then the Daughter (yard sale shopper master)  called.
"I'm looking at a collection of doll furniture for sale for dollars and quarters."

I have gobs of doll house furniture.  I'm a sucker for doll house furniture.
Perhaps that is why I got the call.  (You think?)  I did my best to decline
the tempting offer.

Daughter messaged me a photo of the lot.
My resolve cracked.  These pieces would be perfect for Liesel.

"Offer her ten dollars for everything," I replied.

The next day my new investment was delivered by the savvy shopper.

These are only a few of the pieces.  There are also cupboards
a bookcase, a tiny quilt on a frame, a bed, plus other miscellany.
It's so nice to have one's own personal buyer.

PARCEL AND PRESENTS FROM L.S. IN PNW

One of the best parts of blogging is making friends
all over the world.  The next best thing is getting
cool presents from those friends.

Linda Sue from All I Ever Wanted who lives north of Seattle
often sends me goodies.  Yesterday I found a package on my
porch left by the postman.  The box was full to the top with...

Valentines, chocolate for me and the guys, ribbons for Thomas the cat,
a china baby that fits in a lace pillow scented with lavender, and

Laundry soap for Leelah Dahlie so she can finally do her laundry.

She's been wanting to try out her new pink washer and ironing board
for ever so long (well not really since everyone in her family have
their clothes painted on--we should take note of that wisdom).

Linda Sue even sent a new kettle for their stove and fresh
tomatoes and fish from the Pacific Northwest.

Well...the fish may have been fresh when they went in the box.
Seems it took a while for USPS to get that package to Idaho.

THE DAHLIES 111206 A Double Dose

More piano jokes...

☺  Why did Mozart kill his chickens?
Because they always ran around going, "Bach! Bach! Bach!"

☺  What happens when you play Beethoven backwards?
He decomposes.

☺  A note left for a pianist from his wife:
"Gone Chopin, (have Liszt), Bach in a Minuet."
